Focus on Young People in Bassetlaw were delighted to be asked by their Chair, Cllr. Sue Shaw to invite some young people to perform and share their experience of volunteering for the charity at her Civic Ceremony, to officiate her role as Chairman of Bassetlaw District Council.

The ceremony which was held at St. Swithun’s Church in Retford town centre on Sunday 17th November, was a true celebration of Focusing on Young People.  Ryan, performed by signing in Makaton to the signature song to the Lion King ‘Circle of Life’ and did and an amazing job.  Dolcy, one of our Focus on You stars and volunteers sang ‘Hallelujah’ absolutely beautifully, then Noelle Barron, the charities Development Manager, introduced Sunny, one of our young volunteers to the front, where she answered some questions about volunteering, how positive it made her feel and how she had grown in confidence as a person since she had stated supporting Focus.   This was followed by a few older male and female members of The Mob, a local Musical Theatre Company performing 2 songs with the most incredibly tight harmonies.  It goes without saying, all the young people involved were a huge hit with the congregation of many officials from our region.

A collection which was taken during the service raised £180 for the charity.

After the ceremony, everybody was invited to Retford Town Hall for Afternoon Tea, which rounded off the afternoon perfectly.  Huge congratulations to Cllr. Sue Shaw on officiating her Role as Chair of the council and to all the Young People involved.
