Teenager's Support for Karting

The charity recently received a funding application from a young teenager who needed help funding his Karting passion.  As Focus on Young People in Bassetlaw is a small grant giving charity, we were able to help him with a new set of tyres for his kart.

We asked the teen to tell us a bit about himself and this is what he said:

"After 1.5 years of indoor karting and getting as far as is possible, I have moved to outdoor karting.  In December I broke the all-time track record on the short track at Teamsport Sheffield and again in January. I am part of Team Valley Karting, competing in the British Schools Indoor Karting Championships 2022.  Outdoors I will be competing in the Fullbeck Sprint series 2022 and The Motorsport UK (MSUK) X30 challenge 2022, my first race being 20th February. As part of Karting, I have to learn how to look after my kart, make trackside repairs, analyse data from the on-board computer, make adjustments, learn about fitness, driving and how to improve and move forward in the sport.   
 
I will be looking for sponsorship from local businesses to help with the costs of consumables.  I have run 2 car wash days, 1 to fund my ARKs licence and another which will help towards consumables.  
 
I have type 1 diabetes and this sport has helped my confidence and fitness.  I have had to supply a letter from my consultant that states information to allow Motorsport UK to make the decision on whether I am fit to take my ARKS test. I realise that things are harder for me as I have to make sure I stay medically fit generally and on a daily basis look after my blood sugar levels.  I have to work hard at overcoming any obstacles put in my way but I am up for any challenges!!"

I'm sure you'll agree this young man is truly remarkable and we wish him well with his future endeavours.
