What are we doing for young people in Bassetlaw?

Focus on Young People in Bassetlaw is a well established charity which was launched to the community of Bassetlaw, North Nottinghamshire , in April 1996. Since the launch annually over one thousand five hundred young people have benefited from the establishment of the charity.

The Charity is currently funded by several  local businesses, Charitable Trusts, Grant Aid from Nottinghamshire County Council and a service level agreement with both Bassetlaw District Council and A1 Housing. The Trustees are aware that sustainable funding of the charity will always need to be high on the agenda in order for the successful work to continue.

If you know of an organisation or individual that may be able to assist the charity through a donation or a pledge – large or small, please contact the Development Manager who will be pleased to follow this up.

Focus on Young People in Bassetlaw
works in three main ways.

  1. As a grant giving trust which assists young people in their many and varied ventures with financial assistance.
Small grants are made to young people's organisations or individual young people aged 8 - 25 years who live in the Bassetlaw district. This is done through an application process. The Trustees meet bi-monthly to consider applications to the trust. The application form, requesting support, is very user friendly, but if anyone does require guidance regarding the completion of the form the Development Manager is always happy to assist. A full list of organisations who have received support to date can be obtained from the Development Manager of Focus on Young People in Bassetlaw.

  1. As an organiser of events which help to raise the confidence and self esteem of young people.
These events help young people to recognise and value their worth, develop interpersonal and group skills and improve the quality of their response to the opportunities presented to them. The events also enable the Charity to raise money which is given back to young people through the grant making trust.

  1. As a voluntary sector agency that plays a major part, through consultation, in the development of services for young people in the area.
The Charity is also able to offer help, advice and information on such things as, drawing up of policies, other funding sources and volunteering opportunities.
The Development Manager represents the charity on several partnership task groups. Working in a multi-agency capacity, providing and receiving information, this has enabled the charity to assist in the continuation and development of various projects in the area and to generally champion issues facing young people.

Focus on Young People in Bassetlaw operates an Equal Opportunities Policy, Volunteer Policy, Financial Policy and a Customer Care & Complaints Policy. It also has a Child Protection & Vulnerable Adults Policy in place.
