Care Packages for Bircotes

Bircotes YPC applied for funding for hygiene packs for the young people who attend.

Around 60 care packages were made for boys and girls.

Inside was a hygiene leaflet along with shampoo/conditioner, shower gel, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, shower scrunchie, lip gloss, acne patches and face mask.

Four young people who are committee members aged 15 &16 went shopping for the contents and put together the packages. The young people were involved through committee meetings and was able to develop their teamworking skills, shopping to a budget and general life skills.

The youth centre has around 30 young people aged between 10-18 attend each night, but this varies each night anywhere from 30-55, they take part in activities and access a hot meal during their time.

The young people I spoke to were extremely grateful for their packages and were so excited to see what was inside.

Deb the youth worker manager explained how grateful they were to receive the funding from FoYPiB and what a difference it made to each young person who received one. Hygiene poverty is on the increase within the centre as the cost of living is so high. This project aims to reduce hygiene poverty, reduce stigma and boost confidence and wellbeing.
